Slovakia's state budget posted a deficit of Sk3.097 billion (€102 million) at the end of May, following a surplus of Sk7.759 billion (€256 million) on April 30, State Treasury spokesperson Martina Hujová told the TASR newswire on June 2.
Compared to the same period in 2007, however, when the budget posted a deficit of Sk13.050 billion (€431 million), this represents an improvement of Sk9.953 billion (€329 million).
Budget revenues for the first five months of this year amounted to Sk133.278 billion (€4.401 billion), which is 38.3 percent of the total planned sum for this year of Sk348.252 billion (€11.5 billion). Budget expenditures for the same period reached Sk136.375 billion (€4.504 billion), which accounts for 35.9 percent of the budgeted sum for 2008 of Sk380.233 billion (€12.556 billion).
For all of 2008, the state budget is projected to post a deficit of Sk31.981 billion (€1.056 billion).
