RADIM Hreha, a media advisor living in the Czech Republic, was elected the new director of public broadcaster Slovak Television (STV) yesterday, winning the support of 9 out of 15 members of the STV Council.
The election term of the STV director is five years. Hreha, who was born in Košice and who worked in the Czech Republic for 12 years, will be named director in an official ceremony today.
Shortly after his election, Hreha said he wanted to get acquainted with the real situation in STV, especially in terms of its personnel. He said he believed that most of the people working at STV now were quality employees, and that they would soon understand that "a management is arriving that is serious about the station".
He said he wants to return public trust to STV, and hopes the station will soon start fulfilling its public mission.
According to the Czech weekly Reflex, Hreha was recommended to Slovak PM Robert Fico as a suitable candidate for the post by Fico's political ally, former Czech PM Jiří Paroubek.
Hreha told to the Pravda daily, however, that he never met with Paroubek, and dismissed the allegations as unfounded.
