Slovakia’s Supreme Court on September 24 filed a criminal complaint for libel against the Fair-Play Alliance’s director, Zuzana Wienk, the court’s press department told the TASR newswire.
The court claims that Wienk falsely accused Supreme Court Chairman Štefan Harabin and former vice-chair Daniela Švecová of unlawfully changing the make-up of senates and interfering in the electronic assigning of cases to judges.
“When I was reading the suggestions of Mrs. Wienk, I was horrified to learn that she used the same arguments as the convicted [Branislav] Adamčo whose life sentence for a brutal murder has been confirmed. Adamčo’s arguments were swept away by the Supreme Court senate chaired by Milan Karabin. In the first place, Mrs. Wienk should explain her cooperation with the convicted Adamčo. Because there’s one big difference – Adamčo, as an accused person, was allowed by the law to lie in his defense, but Mrs. Wienk hasn’t been charged, allowing her to slander anybody,” said Harabin.
Earlier this month, Wienk called on Justice Minister Lucia Žitňanská to start disciplinary proceedings against Harabin and Švecová and asked the Anti-Corruption Bureau to look into whether the conduct in question constituted abuse of public office by Harabin and Švecová by interfering in the independence of the court by changing judge’s assignments.
