Survey: Slovaks intended to spend €166 each on Christmas gifts

In a survey carried out by the TNS SK agency before Christmas, Slovaks said they planned to buy Christmas gifts for their relatives and loved ones amounting to €166.20 on average. The survey results indicated that Slovaks planned to spend roughly the same sum of money as at Christmas 2008.

According to the survey, people with a university education intended to spend most – €240.65 on average. Slovak households planned to spend approximately €138.58 on food, €20.59 on non-alcoholic beverages, and €22.06 on alcohol - roughly the same amount of money as last year.

The survey attempted to ascertain whether the economic crisis would have any impact on pre-Christmas shopping. Nearly half of those questioned (47.2 percent) said before the holidays that the crisis would have an impact on their pre-Christmas shopping. However, the same number of respondents (47.5 percent) said that the crisis would have no effect, while 5.4 percent weren't able to decide.
