Sweden opened a new consulate-general in Bratislava on Tuesday, March 22, with Slovak entrepreneur Vladimír Kestler set to take charge, the TASR newswire reported.
The consulate, which will cover all of Slovakia, will be tasked primarily with supporting economic, trading and investment ties. Fostering links in the areas of tourism, culture, education and sports will also be on its agenda. According to the new office, by opening the consulate-general Sweden is underlining its commitment to the further boosting of ties between the two countries.
Kestler voiced his conviction that the consulate will contribute to this task in close co-operation with Sweden's Embassy to Slovakia based in Vienna. Sweden closed its embassies in Bratislava and several other European Union countries in the summer of 2010 due to budgetary constraints.
