Swine fever returns

The Sme daily reports on April 16 that classic swine fever has reappeared in Slovakia after a three-year absence. It was found in two big farms, in Dolné Semerovce (in Levice district) and in Rimavská Sobota, which will result in thousands of animals having to be culled. The EU banned the export of animals, pork and other meat products from Slovakia. It will reconsider the ban on Monday, April 21. Both farms are in quarantine while vets inspect neighbouring properties. SITA
