The situation at Foreigners’ Police should improve

Several changes are expected to come.

The Bratislava’s department will move to a new premises, and the number of police officers will increase.

The situation at the Foreigners’ Police department in Bratislava, where foreigners often have to spend an entire night to get a number and have their things processed, will soon improve, according to Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák.

Apart from the new premises, he plans to increase the number of police officers and divide foreigners into more groups, he said after the September 27 government session.

“We’ve prepared a new premises with bigger capacity in which more police officers will work,” Kaliňák said, as quoted by the SITA newswire.

The number of police officers is expected to increase by 50. Currently, the police officers are dealing with 40 percent more applications than last year, which they cannot handle.

The new premises is expected to be opened by the end of this year, Kaliňák said.

The ministry also plans to divide foreigners into three categories: applicants coming from countries with visa-free regime; applicants from non-EU countries who travel to Slovakia individually; and investors and big companies that are arranging the residence of their employees in Slovakia.

The third group may include companies like Kia and Jaguar Land Rover, SITA reported.
