AS OF MAY 29 it will be possible in Slovakia for clients of mobile operators to change their telephone service providers and keep their old phone numbers.

Before they will be allowed to switch operators, however, clients of T-Mobile and Orange Slovakia will have to pay all of their outstanding debts towards the first operator.

T-Mobile will charge departing clients Sk500 (€13.2) while Orange is quoting Sk1,000 for the service. Orange spokesman Peter Tóth, however, said the service would be provided free of charge, the SME daily wrote.

The mobile operators were unable to estimate how attractive this service will prove for clients, although T-Mobile believes that the number of phone numbers transferred from one operator to the other should not exceed 2 percent.

In the neighboring Czech Republic, in the first five months since the introduction of a similar service, 0.5 percent of clients asked for transfers.
