The American ambassador to Slovakia, Vincent Obsitnik, has said he cannot confirm whether an announcement about the cancellation of the visa obligations for Slovak tourists wanting to travel to the U.S.A. will be made during a meeting between Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič and U.S. President George W. Bush scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. on October 10.
Obsitnik, speaking at a press conference in Košice on Thursday, September 25, said "I have no information as yet. We are waiting until October for confirmation of results on whether Slovakia reached less than ten percent of rejected visa applications as of September 30. In addition to this, two more agreements need to be signed. Then it will be up to President Bush to announce the cancellation of the visa duty for Slovakia and other countries." SITA
