Unemployment grew in October to 13.69 percent

The unemployment rate in Slovakia grew year-on-year in October. According to the statistics of the Central Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family (ÚPSVaR), Slovakia’s unemployment reached 13.69 percent, which means an increase of 0.40 percentage points over October 2011. In month-on-month terms, unemployment grew 0.25 percent, the TASR newswire wrote.

According to the data published on Tuesday, November 20, a total of 369,866 people who were ready to work immediately were registered with labour offices, with their number increasing by 15,223 year-on-year. Altogether, 410,432 people were registered with labour offices, which also includes job seekers who were unable to work immediately.

Prešov Region had the highest unemployment rate, with 19.59 percent, followed by Banská Bystrica Region, with 19.61 percent and Košice Region, with 18.86 percent. The district with the highest unemployment was Rimavská Sobota, with 34.50 percent. The Bratislava I district had the lowest unemployment, with 4.17 percent.
