Confederation of Trade Unions (KOZ) representatives and Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda met on September 14 to iron some out some of their differences.
Dzurinda said he considers the massive union trade union protest rally scheduled for September 25 a legitimate right of dissatisfied unions. But he added that the government's activities and continuing economic reforms will have a positive effect on the citizens' living standard, if they will only be patient.
KOZ President Ivan Saktor said that he handed the Prime Minister a draft law concerning personal income tax that the unions want the cabinet to discuss. If this fails, the trade unionists will try to present the law to parliament as a draft themselves.
Saktor said that preparations for the national protest rally in Bratislava are underway, but that sufficient progress in negotiatons could avert the rally.
