Volkswagen Slovakia produced over 219,500 cars over the first half of 2013, which represents an annual increase of 4.8 percent, according to spokesman Vladimir Machalík.
“Notwithstanding the more difficult conditions on the market, our output was stable during the first six months of the year,” Volkswagen Slovakia Chairman Albrecht Reimold told the TASR newswire August 27. “We launched production of the Volkswagen Cross-up in May. We also produced our 700,000th Volkswagen Touareg. On top of this, intensive preparations for launching production of the Volkswagen E-up began,” he said.
The Bratislava-based plant produced 130,000 gearboxes in the first half of 2013, while the automaker's factory in Martin made 16.9 million car components. The company's turnover stood at €3.27 billion for the first six months of the year. The car-maker is set to launch on the market its electric vehicle, the E-up, in the latter half of 2013.
