The competition to construct the stadium, which should be located at Tehelné Pole in Bratislava, worth €54 million including VAT started in August. According to the original schedule, the submission of project documentation and the works itself was to take 20 months, with the whole process being completed not later than late 2017. The construction was to be financed by the investor and from the state budget, SITA wrote.

The new stadium should have a capacity of 20,000 people and it should be classified in the UEFA stadium category four, which means it can host games in the playoffs of the qualifying stage for the UEFA Champions League or any game in the main competition, and also to host any game in the main competition of the UEFA Europa League or the UEFA European Football Championship.
