Following a recent renovation, the Lajoška mountain chalet in the Slovak Rudohorie mountains, south-eastern Slovakia, has reopened to visitors year-round. Adding to its appeal, three glass-walled cabins have now been installed nearby, offering a new type of overnight stay as part of the Night Under the Stars at Lajoška project.

Each cabin features modern interior furnishings and is accompanied by outdoor seating, including wooden tables and benches. The project is part of a wider effort to promote ecotourism in the region by combining natural surroundings with a touch of contemporary comfort. The regional tourism board, Košice Región Turizmus (KRT), confirmed the development to the TASR newswire, with spokesperson Tatiana Červená highlighting its innovative potential.

“Night Under the Stars at Lajoška is an excellent example of how tourism in our region can evolve in a way that is both sensitive and forward-thinking,” said Rastislav Trnka, chair of the Košice Self-Governing Region (KSK).

Lenka Vargová Jurková, Executive Director of KRT, noted that this new form of accommodation underlines the potential of Košice Region as a destination for ecotourism. “Spending the night immersed in unspoilt nature also adds a unique dimension to stargazing,” she added.

A historic trail meets a modern concept

The glass cabins are located just a few steps away from the Lajoška chalet, which is easily reached from the village of Vyšný Klátov in the Košice-okolie district. The chalet itself was originally built in 1914 on Predná Holica in the Volovské Vrchy hills, and lies directly along the Heroes of the Slovak National Uprising Trail (Cesta hrdinov SNP)—the country’s longest marked hiking route.

Set deep in the heart of the Rudohorie, the area is ideal for outdoor activities throughout the year: hiking and cycling in summer, and cross-country skiing during the winter months.
