Bratislava boasts a vibrant nightlife all year round, offering a choice for people looking for different kinds of music – electronic, retro, rock, hip hop, or Latin.

Bus parties

For hen dos, stag parties or just a fun time, you can celebrate in a limousine or on a party bus. Your personal driver will take you anywhere. If you don’t have an itinerary, the driver will show you Bratislava Castle, the city’s bridges, and the city centre.

“Some also wish to be driven to Devín Castle or Slavín Hill above the city,” Diana Furiková of Rozlúčky.com said. You can thus enjoy drinks and music on the move, improve your dance moves on the bus, and even have fun with a stripper.

“Clients have a delicious dinner or go clubbing before or after the ride,” Furiková noted.

City centre

For those who prefer to stay with their feet firm on the ground, there is a string of music clubs in the Old Town, running from Hviezdoslavovo Square via Ventúrska, Michalská and Obchodná Streets. This part of the city is the top destination for clubbers on Friday and Saturday nights in particular, but also on week nights.

An exclusive club that visitors can start the night off in is The Club, located in the Park Inn Hotel.

“It’s true that this place is quite expensive, but it definitely provides the best entertainment in Bratislava and so it’s worth all the money,” said Filip Timár from Bratislava.

The Club offers various themed discos, and boasts famous DJs from Bratislava and neighbouring countries. In short, it doesn’t matter if you are a fan of reggae, dancehall, techno or old school disco music: you will find a place to suit you in Bratislava.

A legendary club located in a non-traditional space is the hip-hop, R’n’B and EDM club called Trafo. It features a functional transformer station directly inside the club.

Multicultural

Back in the city, a multicultural hub is emerging on Karpatská Street, which is now home to bars and clubs in which congregate a variety of subcultures. Arguably the wildest and most famous venue over the past couple of decades has been Randal Club, which offers rock‘n’roll, punk and metal music in front of a large and loyal audience.

“On regular nights it is to be avoided unless you wish to spend your time in the company of underage wannabes,” said Zuzana Hircová from Bratislava, dressed all in black. “However if a truly exceptional artist is to perform here all your negativity suddenly unites with the others and vanishes to produce a contagious and revolutionary energy that is beyond words and makes you realise that punk and metal are not genres of music but ways of life.”

Clubs in the historical centre

Slightly more peaceful, but no less interesting, is the a4 – nultý priestor, also on Karpatská Street. It constantly expands the boundaries of contemporary culture, with artists of any vocation given the opportunity to present their talents. It has hosted theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, parties, lectures and a Sunday community market.

A similar place can be found on Kamenné Square, in the city centre. The cultural centre Kácečko serves a daily multicultural menu, including live concerts, club nights, literature, visual arts, theatre and discussions with interesting personalities. There is also a bar and a terrace, offering nice  views of the Old Town.

Beer on wheels

On a beer-bike tour around Old Town’s landmarks and squares, your legs will transform into an engine fuelled by draught beer for 90 minutes. Though it is you who makes the special bike move and stop, your guide is also your designated driver. They are assisted by a bartender serving as many pints or other drinks as you would like. “Beer is an inseparable part of Slovaks’ hospitality,” said Lukáš Krňoul of Bratislava Beer Bike. The ride is popular. Up to 40 people once got on the 14-person bike.

Summer

The embankment of the Danube River on the Petržalka side of Bratislava transforms every summer into a beach with fine sand. All activities held here, including concerts, are free of charge. It is open daily from 9:00 until 22:00 while the bars close at midnight. As it is close to the city centre, it is a perfect place to start a party.

The Zlaté Piesky resort is located further away from the city centre, next to the lake with the same name. It hosts two big festivals full of dance and music. Hip Hop Žije (Hip-Hop Lives) takes place here in June and is specially designed for the fans of this music genre. Uprising opens its door to reggae lovers in late August. Visitors can see their favourite bands perform live on the main stage, or visit the electric stage occupied by DJs who keep up the energetic vibe until the early morning hours. A stage with a bar, shared by DJs, bartenders and dancing festival-goers, is also quite popular. After a long night, visitors can spend the morning bathing and relaxing.

During summer evenings, the Zlaté Piesky resort also offers regular open-air events on Wakelake, which makes this a vibrant part of Bratislava throughout the season.
