How is traditional Christmas pasta made?

“Hrtánky” were typical for families manufacturing mill sacks.

The Centre of Traditional Culture in Myjava (Trenčín Region) is trying to preserve the traditions of families manufacturing mill sacks. To do so, it organises the annual pre-Christmas workshop at which children learning to make traditional “hrtánky”.

Hrtánky is a pasta prepared from egg and flour, whose form recalls poultry larynx. It is shaped by a stick on a special creped pad produced in the past from damaged loom parts. The pasta is then cooked in turkey soup and served only during Christmas, the Sme.sk website reported.
