The High Tatra mountains undoubtedly belong among the pearls of Slovak tourism, offering an amazing diversity of natural phenomena and a high concentration of leisure pursuits in such a relatively small place.
Interspersed among the tall mountains are many rugged ridges marked with vast glaciers that hover above green valleys and swift-running rivers.
Among the favourite hiking trails is the one between the Mlynická and Furkotská Dolina valleys, starting in the tourist centre at Štrbské Pleso. Visitors following the yellow tourist mark can enjoy the spectacular views of the Skok waterfall, or the surrounding mountains from the Bystrá Lávka passage, situated at an altitude of 2,300 metres. The hike lasts about 6.5 hours.
The trail via Furkotská Dolina may be shortened by using a cable car that runs from Štrbské Pleso to Chata pod Soliskom, the TASR newswire reported.
