Detailed travel guide to the Tatras introduces you to the whole region around the Tatra mountains, including attractions on the Polish side.

The new visitor regulations state that ski mountaineering is allowed from December 15 in any given year and lasts until April 15 of the following year.

A list of places where ski mountaineers can hike, along with maps, is available in the appendices of the new visiting regulations.

The rules governing ski mountaineering also state that they may hike off tourist or educational trails, but only to start a ski mountaineering hike, and that in order to access the terrain suitable for ski mountaineering they must use the shortest route from the nearest trail, and be as respectful to the environment as possible.

The sport can only be practiced in terrain with sufficient snow cover and hikes can only use trails that are not closed, or areas and corridors intended for winter tourism in the national park.

Registration must also be carried out before starting a hike. A form will be available online at the TANAP Administration website at a later date, but for now can be done via the Mountain Rescue Service phone app.

Visitors are required to have ski mountaineering gear and equipment, know the ski mountaineering terrain as well as the details of their planned tour. Ski mountaineers are also required to show a valid identity card and a valid card from their national mountaineering association.

Under the new rules, ski mountaineers cannot enter places reserved for their activities if accompanied by a pet, while they can only enter and move around in ski mountaineering terrain, and return from it, between 05:00 and 19:00.
