Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic has been appointed head of the government’s anti-corruption campaign, replacing an “overworked” Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš, who led the fight from 2000.
Lipšic proposes to increase staff at the cabinet’s anti-corruption office from two to five and to work less formally, “and thus more effectively”. He added that the office would prepare legislation affecting corruption, such as conflict of interest laws and rules of the game for lobbying.
Anti-corruption experts agree that the first Dzurinda cabinet’s declared war on graft was largely ineffective.
