The Twin-City agreement will confirm current cooperation and an interest in developing it further in future. Both cities want to pick up the threads of common history and culture involuntarily disrupted by the Iron Curtain. Following the collapse of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia in 1989, relations between the two cities resumed and were intensified especially after Slovakia joined the EU and the Schengen zone.
