Even though the actual name day fell on a Thursday, the celebratory event was held on Friday. It featured a quiz about Michalovce, a historical lecture, and discussion of some of the myths associated with the town’s name. Michal Hudák was the host for the evening and entertainers included Misha (also known as Michaela) and the band Žobráci.

The town leaders also used the opportunity to present its new town logo, chosen in a competition that began in March, the TASR newswire wrote. The new yellow and blue logo has the shape of a heart and includes the slogan ‘Michalovce – the heart of Zemplín’. This was the first time that Michalovce, named after the St Michael, had organised an event for its namesakes.
