Apart from all six of the parties in parliament, another 23 non-parliamentary parties are seeking to compete for seats in the European Parliament, among them the NOVA movement, which is running a joint slate with the Civic Democratic Party (OKS) and the Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS). The Party of Hungarian Community (SMK), the nationalist Slovak National Party (SNS), the Communists (KSS) and People’s Party - Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) - the party of Banská Bystrica regional governor Marian Kotleba, known for his extremist background - are also running candidates in the election.

The 2014 election is the third-ever European Parliament election to take place in Slovakia. The European elections have so far attracted little attention among voters, and this time around the turnout is again expected to be low.

Foreigners living in Slovakia who are European citizens can vote in the EP too.

The Slovak Spectator will provide a more detailed report about the candidate lists in the coming days.
