In connection with a libel dispute, Slovak state will have to pay nearly €30,000 to the Ringier Axel Springer Slovakia publishing house based on a decision by the European Court for Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg.

THERE are still several versions related to murder of prominent lawyer Ernest Valko, however one of them appears to be the most likely, Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar told the press on January 3. He was responding to recent press speculation about potential motives for Valko’s murder.
Police halt Tibenský investigation
THE POLICE will not prosecute deputy head of the Military Intelligence (VS) Robert Tibenský, after concluding he has not committed any crimes, the Sme daily reported. The daily broke a story on January 2 that he is investigated after former employee of the Defence Ministry has accused him abusing his post, having a car accident under the influence and of lying about the area of his opulent apartment in a prominent city in Israel.
Opposition challenges new welfare rules at Constitutional Court
A GROUP of opposition MPs represented by Jozef Mihál, former labour minister and current MP for Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), has filed a complaint with the Constitutional Court over the Act on Subsistence Allowance that came into effect in the beginning of the year, TASR newswire reported.

ONE OF the most expensive and controversial public procurements ever undertaken by the Ministry of Defence will finally wrap up in 2014. Began in 2005, the ministry’s agreement with British defence giant BAE Systems for the MOKYS project, a mobile communication system for the armed forces, is likely to come with a final price tag of some €200 million.

THOUGH officials from three European countries confirmed for the Slovak police that Slovakia sold excess carbon dioxide emissions quotas to the Interblue Group company for a disadvantageous price in 2008, the investigation of the case was halted, with no convictions or punishments, according to a police document that the Sme daily obtained based on the law on free access to information.
