THE VOLUME of purchases made via credit card transactions with the Slovak holder of Visa rose 69 percent year-on-year, to $2.5 billion (€2 billion), during the 12 month period ending in March 2004, the private news agency SITA wrote.
This is the first time a year's worth of personal expenditures exceeded $2 billion in the Slovak Republic. The number of transactions via Visa cards was 46 million, up 27 percent year-on-year.
At the end of March 2004, the number of Visa cards issued by member banks in Slovakia reached 1.2 million. In Slovakia, over 12,000 retailers accept the cards.
