THE INCOME of Slovak households reached Sk963 billion (€24 billion) in 2003, the Statistics Office reported. The current income thus grew by 6 percent over that of the previous year in nominal terms, while the real income was down by 2.3 percent.
Current expenditures represented Sk251.3 billion (€6.3 billion), which was down by 2.8 percent in real terms year-on-year, although in nominal terms it was an increase by 5.5 percent.
Slovaks were thus left with Sk711.6 billion (€17.7 billion) in disposable income, of which Sk667.5 billion (€16.6 billion) was used for final consumption, which is down by 0.6 percent in real terms, the state-run news agency TASR reported.
