In the forested foothills of eastern Slovakia, the chairlift linking the lakeside village of Dedinky to the Geravy plateau in Slovenský raj National Park has fallen silent – but only briefly. Just days into its 2025 season, the lift was temporarily suspended, not due to a fault, but following a precautionary recommendation during a routine inspection.
“There’s no malfunction,” Mayor Milan Červenka told the TASR news agency. “The lift is safe. But we’re adding extra safety measures before the summer crowds arrive.”

Inspectors advised reinforcing the pulleys at both the base and summit stations. Although no issues have occurred in Dedinky, officials cited a recent accident in northern Spain, where a pulley failure led to injuries. “We’ve replaced bearings and pins, and we’re confident in the system,” Červenka said. “But we’re not taking chances.”
Work is expected to be completed within two weeks, ahead of the school holidays.
The lift, which reopened in 2023 after a 12-year closure, has become a major attraction in the region, carrying more than 22,000 visitors in its first season back – a sharp rise from pre-closure numbers.
Dedinky is also investing in new infrastructure to support growing tourism, including a small campsite with facilities for caravans, partly funded by the Košice regional government.

Nestled beside a mountain reservoir, the village serves as a southern gateway to Slovenský raj’s canyons, waterfalls and hiking trails.
