45 applicants for every job

JOB offices offered fewer than 9,000 vacancies in March, while the number of job seekers marked a record level of over 390,000. There were therefore around 45 unemployed people for each available job in Slovakia, the TASR newswire reported.

At the end of March vacancies numbered 8,760, according to the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Office (ÚPSVAR). Of Slovakia’s eight regions, Trnava reported the most vacancies – almost 1,900. The fewest vacancies were reported by those regions with the highest unemployment rates: Banská Bystrica (744 vacancies) and Košice (581 vacancies).

During March, the number of new vacancies was 1,713, while 4,762 vacancies were filled during the same month.
