Air pollution fines imposed

INSPECTORS of the Slovak Environmental Inspection Office (SIŽP) carried out 310 air pollution studies during the first half of 2012.

INSPECTORS of the Slovak Environmental Inspection Office (SIŽP) carried out 310 air pollution studies during the first half of 2012.

They uncovered contraventions in 44 cases, imposed nine remedial measures and 36 fines totalling over €24,000, Maroš Stano, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Environment, told the SITA newswire.

The Levoča-based unit of Troliga Bus from Prešov received the highest fine, of €3,200, for failing to keep air pollutants in its paint shop within the legal limit, plus other wrongdoings.

Another company, Region Press in Trnava, was fined €2,500. The Prakovce unit of Potrubie, a Košice firm, had to pay a fine of €1,500 for failing to demonstrate that it maintained legal air pollution levels and for identifying pollutants through a method not approved by the district environmental office.
