All Saints Day, marked on November 1, will close shops in Slovakia for a day (source: TASR)
The first day of November, All Saints' Day, is a quiet day for many Slovaks, who usually visit cemeteries and remember their loved ones who have died. Since it is a national holiday in Slovakia, the shops will not be open.
Stands where cemetery goers may buy graveside lanterns and flowers, fresh or artificial, are an exception, though. Petrol stations, shops at airports and bus or railway stations, as well as pharmacies and souvenir shops are exempt from the ban, too.
The ban applies to the sale of goods only. This means service-oriented businesses, including restaurants or beauty salons, may be open as well.
