FOREIGN investors who are members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Slovakia (AmCham) want to talk to the new government about leg-islation concerning collective bargaining. The chamber is concerned about the possibility that third parties could interfere in the negotiations, the TASR newswire reported.
The investors say they believe in the importance of collective bargaining, but see the current legislation as a problem, as it allows for unpredictable interference by third parties in the business activities of employers.
According to TASR, the law on collective negotiations was last amended as of January 1, 2010, and allows the Labour Ministry under certain circumstances to widen the scope of a collective agreement to cover businesses which were not party to the original negotiations.
AmCham has appealed to the new government to amend the law. They claim the current situation not only represents an obstacle for businesses established in Slovakia but also discourages potential new investors from coming to Slovakia.
