THE CENTRE of avalanche prevention at the Mountain Rescue Service based in Demänovská Dolina is preparing a mobile application to distribute its daily reports about the avalanche situation in Slovakia. The application should be ready for the upcoming winter season, the TASR newswire reported in late October.
Marek Biskupič, the head of the Mountain Rescue Service explained that smarter and smarter phones have become a common part of life and so the Mountain Rescue Service is adapting to this trend.
The mobile application will allow visitors to the Slovak mountains to get the latest information about avalanche threats, change their hiking routes and avoid critical points.
The Mountain Rescue Service is following the lead of Austria and Germany, where such applications are already available. Information will be available for the High, Low and Western Tatras, and the Great and Little Fatras.
