IN 2004 Slovakia's commercial banks received Sk10.9 billion (€283 million) from charges and commissions, which is Sk1.7 billion (€40 million) more than in 2003, the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) announced, the TASR news agency reported.
According to the NBS, the share of charges on revenues from clients and banks grew from 18.3 percent at the beginning of 2004 to 22.5 percent by the end of the year.
The banking sector's capital and reserves, including that of the central bank, decreased by Sk4.4 billion (€110 million) to Sk101.5 billion (€2.59 billion).
The banking sector closed 2004 with a Sk12.9 billion (€330 million) profit.
There were 18 banks and three branches of foreign banks operating in Slovakia's banking sector at 2004-end.
