SPECIAL live broadcasts of Slovakia’s natural habitats continue. The aim of the broadcasts is to monitor the behaviour of animals living in the Tatras and to simultaneously protect them from poachers and other disturbances occurring during the short Tatra summer. Currently, the camera is focusing on a colony of marmots and chamois under the Lomnický Štít peak, the TASR newswire wrote in mid August.
The live broadcast enables the general public to watch the Tatras environment via the website of the administration of the Tatras National Park (TANAP), www.spravatanap.sk, the website of the Ministry of Environment, www.enviro.gov.sk, and the website www.kukaj.sk, which also offer records from previous days.
After a monitored pair of falcons brought up their offspring, the camera was moved up to alpine level to watch Slovakia’s glacial relicts - marmots and chamois.
The camera is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres above sea level in extreme climatic conditions.
It is powered by solar panels and will be in operation until the marmots begin preparing for their winter hibernation.
