BRATISLAVA'S M. R. Štefánik airport is set to adopt new security rules for passenger checks as of November 6.
The new rules conform to a directive from the European Commission to tighten checks to reduce the threat of terrorism.
In August, police in London thwarted a planned terrorist attack on a number of trans-Atlantic flights, the TASR news agency wrote.
Along with weapons, explosives and chemicals, the list of banned items in hand luggage will also include liquids and gels such as drinks, perfumes, syrups, aerosols, toothpaste and hair gel.
The EC is also introducing new rules for electronic devices. Lap-top computers and large electronic appliances, for example, will have to go through individual detector checks, along with passengers' coats and jackets.
In addition, the size of hand luggage will be limited to 56x45x25 centimetres as of March 2007.
