AUTOMOTIVE producer Brose has launched its first Slovak plant, beefing up production at Volkswagen's Lozorno industrial park, northwest of Bratislava.

Brose, a major supplier of Volkswagen and one of the first firms to invest in Lozorno, will produce door systems for the Volkswagen Taureg and Porsche Cayenne sport-utility vehicles. The company is under contract to produce 520,000 door systems in 2003.

Located 25 kilometres from Volkswagen's main Slovak facility in the Bratislava suburb of Devínska Nová Ves, the Lozorno plant has already become home to key automotive suppliers, including Johnson Controls and the Lear Corporation.

Brose, which operates automotive component plants Germany, Mexico, Brazil, China and elsewhere, has invested nearly 7 million euro into its Lozorno plant, and has an initial labour force of 125 employees.
