Fight hunger: Walk the World
MORE THAN 250 employees, couriers, partners and friends of the TNT company came together on June 12 in the centre of Bratislava and joined the worldwide campaign, Fight hunger: Walk the World.
The walk in Bratislava started on Hviezdoslavovo square and continued through the streets of the historical city centre, crossed the Nový most bridge and ended in Petržalka near the Aupark shopping centre.
"Maybe we will not have the power to move the world but we, TNT in Slovakia and the whole world, believe that through such a strong and unique event we have a chance to move the consciences of many companies and will inspire them to similar steps and partnerships," said Dino Ajanovič, general director of TNT Express Worldwide in Slovakia.
The organizers in Bratislava succeeded in collecting Sk72,250 (€1,880) for the fight against hunger which is three times more than last year. The finance went to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) aimed at providing free food to schools in areas suffering from hunger.
The walk in Bratislava was a part of the worldwide project organized by WFP. This year more than 200,000 people from 91 countries joined the walk on the same day. Together they walked more than one million kilometres (25 times around the globe). Money collected from the event will help feed more than 50,000 children for a whole year.
Let us renew the Tatras
THE ORANGE Konto grant programme is supporting five projects in its programme Let Us Renew the Tatras. The overall financial support represents Sk4.3 million (€111,914).
The programme is aimed at helping areas hit by the last year's windstorm in the High Tatras. The finance was collected in last year's mobile public collection. Orange Konto, established by the mobile operator Orange, cooperated with the Ekopolis Foundation.
Environmental organizations and organizations operating in the area of national park management and sustainable growth in the High and Low Tatras could submit their projects for consideration. The main criteria in assessing them was that projects had to lead to long term and systematic solutions for the Tatras and at the same time use environmentally sensitive methods in the renewal process.
