THE GOVERNMENT is working on a new Energy Policy, defining its main goals and priorities for the energy sector through 2035 with an outlook up to 2050. While the original plan was for the Slovak cabinet to approve it in late 2013, late May is now the target. For now, Slovakia is following the energy policy adopted in 2008, the SITA newswire wrote on February 11.
The new policy counts on the construction of several new energy producing facilities. These include a new nuclear power plant in Jaslovské Bohunice, the hydropower station Sereď and the repump hydropower station Ipeľ.
Based on the draft, the electricity generated from renewable energy resources should not be supported by higher feed-in tariffs.
“Those kinds of renewable sources, which do not show fluctuation in production and whose feed-in tariffs will be the closest to the market prices, will be preferred,” the draft reads.
The Economy Ministry included in the new policy a plan to connect crude oil pipelines between Bratislava and Austria’s Schwechat, ultimately reaching the Druzhba pipeline and the refinery close to Vienna. Based on the draft, the reconstruction of the crude oil pipeline Adria is also a prioritised strategic project.
Within natural gas, Slovakia does not have big plans. The Economy Ministry has included construction of gas pipeline interconnectors between Slovakia and Hungary and Poland. These projects are already in advanced phases of construction.
