Carmakers have interrupted production in their plants in Slovakia for the Christmas holiday. While the Slovak branch of the German carmaker Volkswagen (VW SK) will resume car production only on January 22, workers of the carmaker Groupe PSA in Trnava and the carmaker Kia Motors Slovakia near Žilina will return to work on January 2 and January 3, respectively.

VW SK in Bratislava will use the almost four-week holiday, which started on December 23, for the arrival of new projects and maintenance.

“More than 1,000 VW SK employees and workers from several suppliers will continue working,” said Lucia Kovarovič Makayová, spokesperson of VW SK as cited by TASR.

They will perform technological and construction adjustments impossible to carry out during uninterrupted production. The time-consuming re-buildings are especially linked with preparations for manufacturing new products, which are the Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q8.

In VW's Martin-based plant, production will resume on January 2 and the workers at its plant for the production of instruments in Stupava will return to work on January 8.

At Kia, the Christmas holiday started on December 20 and will last until January 3.

“During this break we will maintain and service production technologies, which cannot be done during full operation,” said Jozef Bačé, spokesperson of Kia Motors Slovakia as cited by the TASR newswire. “The carmaker will also use this time for the installation and setting up of production technologies linked to the launch of a new model's serial production. Kia Motors Slovakia will again start production on January 3.”

The carmaker Groupe PSA in Trnava closed production this year on December 22 and will resume on January 2, the company informs on Facebook.
