Central bank posts Sk9.5 billion profit

THE NATIONAL Bank of Slovakia (NBS) reported a cumulative profit of Sk9.5 billion (€245 million) at the end of June this year, the SITA news agency wrote.

The NBS closed the first five months of this year with a cumulative profit of Sk12.6 billion (€325 million) but in June alone it posted a loss of Sk3.1 billion (€80 million).

According to NBS spokesman Igor Barát, the Slovak crown's exchange rate development against the euro and the US dollar significantly influenced the central bank's financial result. The Slovak crown appreciated against the euro by 1.79 percent and weakened against the US dollar by 1.96 percent in June.
