The building that was structurally unsound was saved from literally collapsing. However, to fix the structural flaws, residents took a loan of €800,000, representative of apartment owners Miroslav Nevoľný told the Sme daily.
Now, however, they want to get their money back. They are asking the developer for compensation of damages. Finishing works should be completed on the building by the end of June; then it should also get final building approval from the construction authority.
Last autumn, 56 people living in 44 flats had to leave their homes overnight, find and rent accommodation, and take a loan for repairs. However, now the flats’ owners want to demand damage compensation from the developer. The developer, on his side, can ask for compensation from the structural engineer Ján Tomčáni who issued a flawed structural expertise, or from the Jančina architekti architect studio which cooperated with him. Insurance should cover such costs for the studio and the developer. The residents should be able to turn directly to the insurance company and ask for compensation.
However, as for now, residents have not been compensated, Sme wrote on June 16.
