SLOVAKIA will host the first annual Corporate Social Responsibility conference on May 20. Bearing the title A New Strategy For Business Success, this year's conference will look to the future.
The organisers - the Business Leaders Forum Slovakia, Pontis Foundation, and Integra Foundation - say the event will offer a unique opportunity for business leaders to present and examine trends in corporate socially responsible corporate practices in Slovakia, the EU, and other countries. Participants will also share practical information with other companies, governments, and NGOs about corporate responsibility and the role of partnerships among their different sectors. Business leaders will have the opportunity to discuss the challenges of and solutions to integrating responsible practices into their core business operations and deepening awareness of the value of involvement in such practices.
The opening will feature addresses by Ľudovít Kaník, the Slovak labour minister; US Ambassador Ronald Weiser; and Dutch Ambassador Laurent Stokvis. Representatives of the World Bank, Provident Financial, Shell, and Accenture Great Britain will speak. Companies operating in Slovakia will be represented by Kirk Collingwood of Philip Morris, Igor Thám of Citigroup, Pavol Lančarič of Orange, and Raj Airey of Pfizer, among others.
The conference is being conducted under the auspices of Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda as a part of the European Business Campaign for Corporate Social Responsibility, organised through Corporate Social Responsibility Europe, the International Business Leaders Forum, and the Copenhagen Centre as a response to the March 2000 European Summit in Lisbon.
