Black Friday and Cyber Monday, characterised by discounts for shoppers, will be followed by a day that celebrates and encourages generosity.
Giving Tuesday is a global movement celebrating good deeds and spreading kindness. This year, it falls on November 30.
It is also a rare way to connect various groups of people, including non-governmental organisations, companies, families and individuals, and encourages them to support selected projects - financially, materially, or through volunteering.
Events will be held in 48 municipalities across the country.
“An increasing number of people in Slovakia is taking part in Giving Tuesday,” said Michal Kišša, executive director of the Pontis Foundation, ambassador of the event, adding that not only the volume of donated money or other means is increasing, but as well the number of people who want to contact NGOs and offer help.
Altogether 180 civic associations are taking part in Giving Tuesday this year. People can support activities aiming to donate packages to nursing home residents in Bratislava and Prešov, contribute to saving a drying room for medicinal herbs in eastern Slovakia, or support a project promoting innovative education, among others.
At the same time, dozens of companies and institutions from across the country are participating, organising various collections or online events. This includes the President’s Office, which wants to organise a collection for the Food Bank of Slovakia.
