The government has approved the proposal to postpone the start of mandatory use of electronic letterboxes by corporate entities by a further six months.
Under the new rules, the companies will be required to use e-letterboxes for communication with state bodies as of July 1, 2017. The government has already postponed the start of e-communication before, from July 2016 to January 2017.
The main reason for the decision is that only 25 percent of statutory representatives have activated the eID card they need to use their e-letterboxes, the Denník N daily reported on its website.
The decision follows the call of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK) voiced on November 29.
Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Informatisation Peter Pellegrini (Smer) explained that he supports the plan as he wants to prevent the negative impact of the e-communication launch on companies that will not have active e-letterboxes.
“We have only two possibilities,” Pellegrini said, as quoted by the TASR newswire. “We will either insist on observing the law, which may result in greater pressure and stress at the end of the year, or postpone the launch.”
The duty to use e-letterboxes for official communication with state bodies was introduced by the law adopted three years ago. All e-letterboxes should be fully active as of January 1, 2017.
In order to inform the representatives of companies about their new duties, the state also launched a campaign. This has not helped, however, as only one-quarter of affected firms have activated their eIDs, said Pellegrini.
