E-signatures little used

THE EXTENT to which electronic signatures are used by the public depends on the opportunities that the state authorities provide for using the convention, according to Peter Oravec, the head of the Information Safety and Electronic Signature Section of the National Security Bureau (NBÚ).

"Electronic signatures are already in use today. However, they can still be used only at a small number of offices, such as customs or tax offices," Oravec said.

He added that electronic signatures are a secure means of doing business. "I would say that an electronic signature is a thousand times safer than a hand-written one," SITA quoted him as saying.
