THE EASTERN Košice region is among the three priority destinations for attracting foreign investment with state incentives, but lacks real estate to offer to investors.
According to Tomáš Karaba from the Slovak Agency for the Development of Investments and Trade (SARIO), "the preparedness [of plots, halls, and complete infrastructure] is very weak in Košice compared to other regions".
Local authorities admit they have problems acquiring plots of land. The city of Košice, for instance, is struggling to acquire 200 hectares for a future industrial park in Pereš, as the area is currently owned by a group of landowners, Hospodárske noviny wrote.
SARIO says it is determined to direct as much investment as possible to the Košice and Prešov regions, where investors can also gain higher incentives. The municipalities, however, are responsible for making sure the areas are prepared.
