Economic criminality costs €580m

THE ECONOMIC criminality rate dropped in 2012 compared to the previous year, but the amount of damage caused by economic criminality compared to damage caused by other forms of criminality continued its rise in 2012, the SITA newswire reported.

In 2012, damages caused by economic criminality amounted to €583.8 million, €144.8 more than in 2011, according to the Report on Security in the Slovak Republic for 2012, which the cabinet acknowledged on June 26.

In 2012 a total of 16,681 criminal acts classified as economic criminality were identified, a decline of 1,464 from 2011.

But of those identified crimes, the number of solved cases of economic criminal acts dropped by 865, SITA reported.
