ECONOMIC freedom in Slovakia has been improving since 1999, a study by the US Heritage Foundation found.
The study, presented by representatives of the Heritage Foundation and F A Hayek Foundation on January 23 at a meeting attended by Finance Policy Institute director at the Finance Ministry Vladimír Zlacký, ranked Slovakia 34th out of 157 evaluated countries in an economic freedom index for 2006.
The evaluation index improved from 2.43 points in 2005 to 2.35 points in 2006, the SITA news agency wrote.
Improvement was reported particularly in foreign-trade policy, which was one of nine evaluated fields. In connection with Slovakia's entry into the EU, the study found that the complete opening of the European market and adoption of European regulations and export supports have helped the country.
