Employers are more interested in hiring university graduates. The best chances for employment belong to students with education in IT, machine engineering and economics. On the other hand, the employers are the least interested in graduates of pedagogy, theology, and sports specialisations, the TASR newswire reported.
The interest in school graduates has been confirmed also by the 53-percent increase in job offers from employers published on the Profesia.sk job portal, TASR wrote.
The interest of young people in studying technical specialisations, however, keeps dropping.
“The result is a disproportion between the demand in the labour market and graduates who search for their first job in administration,” said Ivana Molnárová, executive director of Profesia.sk, as quoted by TASR, adding that following the changes in demographic trends, the number of graduates is much lower than 10 years ago.
The number of graduates from Slovak public colleges and universities has decreased significantly in recent years. While in 2011 56,314 people graduated from them, last year it was only 45,319, according to the data of the Centre of Scientific and Technical Information.
As for the schools, the most wanted are graduates from the University of Economics in Bratislava, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) and the Technical University of Košice (TU KE).
Regarding the faculties, the most demanded school is the Faculty of Informatics and Information Technologies of the STU. The CV of one graduate is seen by nearly 10 different employers on average. Second is the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of TU KE, followed by the same faculty of STU, TASR wrote.
Additionally, employers expect graduates to have some work experience. They also appreciate experience from abroad.
