SLOVAKIA will not now lose out on approximately €24 million from European Union structural funds after the European Commission decided to unblock the money, which was originally allocated for the Operational Programme for the Informatisation of Society (OPIS), the TASR newswire reported on December 1.
“The unblocking of funds shows that the EC’s trust in the functioning of the management of OPIS has been restored,” said the Office of the Government Proxy for an Information Society, as quoted by TASR, adding that Slovakia will be able to draw the money without any further restrictions.
The EC blocked the programme’s funding in August, after 56 flaws were identified in its implementation, including use of incorrect selection criteria and various errors in its management system.
The decision to unblock the money came after an independent audit confirmed that all the problems had been rectified and all the affected projects re-evaluated.
