THE EUROPEAN Commission wants to tighten the rules for entry to the euro for new member states of the European Union, which would include Slovakia.
The governor of the Slovak National Bank (NBS), Marián Jusko, said he was unhappy with the proposal: "The treatment of candidate countries on entry to the European single currency should be the same as countries that already have the currency."
The Finance Ministry and the NBS both want Slovakia to enter the euro by 2007-8.
